The Dance Never Danced
The lights went down on the dance floor
The song, “Unchained Melody” played
The couple embraced each other
And began their dance of pure love
Their eyes locked onto each other’s
Their lips but inches from a kiss
They glided as one ‘cross the dance floor
Lost in their fantasy of sweet motion
Around and around they did wheel
Pressed to each other with abandon
Wishing the song would never end
But end it did as all songs finally do
He bowed, she curtsied, they kissed
Then the lights went on in the living room
And the old man who sat in the wheel chair
Wiped the dream just dreamed from his eyes
His dream of the dance never danced
